I. Amazing Parks & Roads In Bangkok
Chinatown, Bangkok
If you want to experience authentic Thai cuisine with an infusion of Chinese traditions, Chinatown in Bangkok is the place for you. Be prepared for your senses to be “assaulted” by a blend of scents, colors and sounds.
If you are a fan of street food, then you have to visit Yaowarat Road.
There are many temples worth visiting in the area such as Wat Traimit, and the Chinatown Gate is another attraction you might want to see as it is located at the entrance of the Yaowarat Road.
a. When to visit:
Chinatown is definitely not for everyone, so if you do not want to find yourself in a crowded place, I suggest you to go there during the day. However, make sure to come prepared for the heat and have some comfortable shoes because you will need to walk a lot!
In the same time, for a better experience, once the sun is starting to set, the place will be almost unrecognizable as the streets become crowded and the billboards on the Yaowarat Road light up.
Extra tip: if you are planning your trip to Thailand so that you can catch the Chinese New Year, make sure to go to Chinatown for the celebrations. The atmosphere is not to be missed!
b. The entrance is free
Khao San Road
Khao San Road is a popular backpacking hub of South East Asia mostly due to its affordable hostels and cheap restaurants. Contrasting with Yaowarat Road, one of the most expensive spots in Bangkok, Khao San Road is known for being both cheap and divertive.
a. When to visit:
If you decide to walk around Khao San Road when it is less crowded, I suggest you to go there during the day, but beware of the sun. Pack some comfortable walking shoes, a sun cap and stay hydrated.
Extra tip: Khao San Road is a popular location where tourists and locals are celebrating every year Songkran, the water festival. Water fights are organized all around Thailand, but Khao San Road is one of the most popular spots. If you are planning your trip to Thailand, try not to miss the water festival, as it is a unique event I do not think exists in other countries of the world.
b. The entrance is free
Benchakitti Park
Benchakitti Park is the ideal location for admiring the sunset in Bangkok. It is my favorite park for relaxing at the end of the day as it has many benches and a green areas in front of the lake where you can picnic.
The park has walkways (ideal for joggers), a collection of rare plants, cycle paths and even an outdoor amphitheater.
Extra tip: For a better experience, make sure to take a towel or a picnic blanket with you.
a. When to visit:
I recommend you to visit the park for sunset.
b. The entrance is free
Fully opened in 2022, the entrance is free.
1. Lumpini park
The first public park in Bangkok, Lumpini Park will not disappoint you! The park is ideal for long walks far from the hustle and bustle of the city, jogging or even renting a boat on its artificial lake.
Probably the biggest park in Bangkok, Lumpini does not only attract hundreds of tourists, but it is also chosen by Thai people for recreational activities.
a. When to visit:
Lumpini Park can be visited all day long, but try not to go there in the middle of the day, as the heat will make you feel uncomfortable.
b. The entrance is free
There is so much more that you can do in Bangkok if you are willing to find a guided trip!
If you are looking for other options, I suggest you to use Klook!
