Best Things To Do In Istanbul
Takim is a synergy of colors, people and street food. Wondering around Takism is a must during your trip in Istanbul. One particular street that I would recommend seeing is Istiklal street as it has lots of shops and street food options such as:
- Turkish ice creamÂ
- Turkish delights
- Donners
- Stuffed mussels (Midye dolma)
- Fresh juices
There is no such thing as an entrance fee, but take care of your belongings as the streets might get crowded especially during the evenings.Â
Located on the European side of Bosphorus, the Ortakoy Mosque (or the Great Mosque of Sultan Abdulmejid) is a famous touristic spot as well during the day as after the sunset due to its picturesque setting. Â
Give yourself some time to wander around the Mosque as the atmosphere is joyful. There are plenty of street food shops selling stuffed potatoes, Turkish coffee and tea, as well as traditional restaurants with local designs or street shops selling souvenirs and jewelry.
Balat is one of the oldest areas in Istanbul known for its colorful and yet narrow streets. The neighborhood delights you with an intriguing combination of churches, mosques and synagogues. Â
The neighborhood is also preferred by many tourists due to its atmosphere and cool restaurants.Â
Tips: For those of you who are fans of the famous Turkish series Çukur, make sure to include this neighborhood on your list as the location of the filming was Balat.
Initially built as a watchtower at the highest point of the neighborhood, Galata is now the central objective of BeyoÄŸlu, a neighborhood located on the European side of Istanbul.Â
The streets surrounding the tower are known for the multitude of Instagrammable restaurants and cafes, but also for the hotels and night life.
If there is one thing that you have to do in Istanbul, that is to have a traditional Turkish breakfast.
Turkish breakfasts are famous all over the world due to the mix of dishes arranged on a plate, and the best place to have one is in the country where it originated from.
When it comes to the most delicious and Instagrammable breakfast in Istanbul, there is one particular restaurant that I will always recommend: Arada Cafe. Originally a Lebanese restaurant, having 2 location around the city of Istanbul (Arada Endulus and Arada Beyrut), the restaurants are serving a delicious fusion between of the 2 cuisines: Turkish and Lebanese. if you choose to enjoy a breakfast at Arada, make sure to choose Arada Cafe Beyrut as they are only serving an all-day breakfast.
Hafiz Mustafa is a famous sweet shop in Turkey as well as in the entire Europe. The founder won 11 medals in sweets and delights industry in Europe. The shop offers Turkish baklava assortments along with a multitude of other Turkish delights for every taste!
Synergy of cultures, Istanbul offers you the taste of Europe and Asia in the same time. But when it comes to the oriental scents, I would go for an Arabic perfumery brand famous in Asia having more shops around Istanbul: Maa AlThahab. Let yourself being delighted by their oriental scents and travel between decades of history and traditions while trying different scents from their shops.Â

Best Things To Do In Izmir
Izmir is a city in the south-west of Turkey full of life and kind people. It is know as the most West-oriented city of Turkey being a fusion of picturesque modernity and traditions. No matter if you are in Izmir for only a few days or more, I suggest you to take at least half of a day to soak in their traditions. Therefore, start your journey with a walk around the Old Bazaar and make sure not to miss L’Agora Old Town Hotel & Bazaar, definitely a hotspot in the Old Town of Izmir.
One of the experiences I never thought I would enjoy that much was exploring Izmir with Marti!
What/who is Marti? Marti is an application that offers you not only the possibility of renting electric scooters, but also mopeds. In order to rent one, you have to download the app, create a profile and simply find a free electric scooter/moped.
Personally, I never drove a moped before, but I chose to explore the shore of the Alsancak area and I loved it! I paid 100 TL for 34 minutes of wondering around and admiring the sunset.Â
Being a historical building built in 1907, you can take the “Asansor”/the elevator to the top of Izmir and admire the city from above. The best time to visit it is either during the evening, or early in the morning. At the top you will find 2 restaurants where you can relax before your next destination!
The entrance to the Asansor is free.Â
Sunsets in Izmir are magical! I chose to spend an evening on a rooftop in this city and admire the sunset while sipping a cocktail.
If you like this type of activities, then Barcino Rooftop Bar is for you! Plus, they have a super cute design and amazing vibes!
If you are travelling to Izmir, make sure to include in your travel plans Alaçatı! Also called “the Santorini of Turkey”, Alaçatı is a small town with a festive atmosphere surrounded by colorful streets, restaurants and cafés.Â
How to make it there? To arrive to Alaçatı from Izmir, you can take the public transportation to Fahrettin Ataly station in Izmir. In a 3 minutes walk from the bus station, you will find yourself at the bus station to Alaçatı. Ask some locals how to make it to the bus station as it can be a bit confusing (but not difficult!) A one-way ticket to Alaçatı costs around 70TL per person.
If you arrive in Alaçatı, do not miss spending a few hours on the Ilıca Plajı in Çeşme.
Why Ilıca Plajı? This place is actually a local beach with clear crystal water and free entrance. In order to make it there, take a local bus (a blue bus called dolmuş that drives between cities) from Alaçatı. The price of a one-way ticket is around 11 TL per person.
Bostanlı is located in Izmir and it is a beautiful area to walk around during your stay.
You can make it there either by tramway or by ferry. If you choose to go there by ferry, it takes around 15 minutes from Konak to Bostanlı. The price of the ticket is around 6.5 TL per person for a one-way ticket.
Bostanlı looks a lot like Izmir, but has more palm trees. It has a great variety of bars and street food.Â
