How To Use Social Media To Do Your Travel Research

In my previous posts, I told you about the importance of your research when you organize your trip.

However, there are so many ways for conducting a good travel research!

1. Use Airbnb guidebooks when conducting a good travel research

Some hosts can provide guidebooks for the activities you can have around the stays they offer.

The good part is that you do not even need to have a booked and payed reservation in order to see their guides.

Just select an accommodation that you like, find the host and go to the host’s profile by pressing on the host’s picture. There you can find (if the host has) guidebooks created especially for you as a potential guest.

I find this travel research tip very useful since the Airbnb’s guidebooks are created by locals, the best source of information you need when organizing your trip!

2. Check the Airbnb experiences

Streets of Tokyo, Japan

Did you know that you can find lots of experiences shared by locals on Airbnb?

All you have to do is to open the app, write where you want to go, and select in the upper part of the page “experiences” instead of stays.  You can choose the dates and the number of persons, but you can as well skip that part if you want.

3. Manually do you travel research using Google maps

1. Where To Search

Open google maps and search for restaurants by simply choosing this option in the horizontal menu you have under the searching space. Google will show you all the nearby restaurants and their ratings. Click/press on each one of them to know more details and to see photos taken in that place.

2. Read More

You can even see their menu the comments let by customers, the directions or you can even contact them.

Double Check

Do not rely on only one source, so make sure you double check on their Instagram or Facebook page. Some restaurants may appear as open on Google, whereas they have been closed for a few months. You can do the same for cafes, gas stations, attractions, museums and many others.

4. Search for a guide on Pinterest where you can read more travel tips

Did you know that you can search for “3 days itinerary in ….” and find a lot of ideas?

Moreover, you can search for “most instagrammable places in…” or “best cafes in…” and find a lot of articles written by travelers.

Pinterest is a searching engine, so don’t be afraid to use it at its full potential!

5. Use Instagram for your travel research!

Did you know that you have the possibility to save a post and create a folder on Instagram?

You just have to press the save sign which is in the bottom right corner of a post and then you can create a special album for your next destination. In the latest version of Instagram, you can even create a shared album with another Instagram user.

Instagram gives the users the possibility of writing and searching for guides.

You can find guides related to  food,  accommodation, Instagrammable spots etc. It is SUPER EASY TO FIND them: just search some key words on Instagram, for example: Kuala Lumpur, find a post that interests you and click on the location, then you will see a page with other photos taken in that location, and just above the blue button with “View information”, you will see: related guides. Press on the related guides and feel free to read and save them (in the upper right corner) for later.

6. See all nearby “hot spots” on Instagram

Search for a guide and click on it to find more about a certain place.

On the upper right corner, next to the save button, you have a pin and a map. If you press on it, you will find more locations preferred by tourists and the photos taken in those places.

The cool part is that you can see those locations directly on the map, so you can make a better idea about how far are them and you can better organize your trips.
